Revitalization of the Old Market Square in Poznan is an investment of great importance for the functionality, image and prestige of this place as the city's showcase.
According to the project, a new structure and surface of the Old Market Square, adjacent streets, pedestrian routes and sidewalks were created. The area undergoing revalorization was covered with stone slabs and cubes. Historic materials were also partially used: cubes, curbs and granite paving slabs. Moving on the new surface is made easier by lowering the sidewalks in relation to the Old Market Square and the reconstructed parts of the streets. A storm sewage system with two underground retention tanks was constructed under the renovated surface. The following networks were modernized or rebuilt: water and sewage, heating, energy, telecommunications and gas. The scope of work also included the construction of a technological channel and an underground transformer station, modernization of city monitoring and expansion of the underground public toilet.
Lighting, more consistent and aesthetic, is a visible change in the Old Market Square after dark. Thanks to the new light illumination, the most important buildings are visible and historic fountains are also properly illuminated.
In addition to the new surface, three islands of greenery were created - flower beds with trees and seats, as well as a vertical garden on the western wall of the Arsenal Gallery, new benches and seats on the old market square and in the Culture Passage, provided on Jana Baptysty Quadro. The place is currently used to organize cultural events and has been equipped with, among others: a mobile stage and roofing.
During the reconstruction of the Market Square, the functional and spatial layout of the Arsenal Municipal Gallery building also changed. An additional floor was constructed in the western, ground-floor part of the New Arsenal. The building has been adapted to the needs of people with various degrees of disability, including: providing an elevator.
After modernization, the Old Market Square in Poznan and the buildings of cultural institutions, including the Arsenal Municipal Gallery, have been made available to various entities operating in the social sphere to a wider extent than before, for the implementation of projects and tasks due to which the problems of the revitalization area will be solved.
